Jean-Noël ARGENSON has been a University Professor and Hospital Practitioner (PUPH) in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Marseille University Hospital, Aix-Marseille University, since 1995. He has been Head of the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology Department at Hôpitaux Sud and La Timone Hospital since 2003. He has been head of the inter-site musculoskeletal unit at Marseille University Hospital since 2007.

He has been an exceptional class professor since 2016. He is co-director of the joint biomechanics research unit at Aix-Marseille University-CNRS. He is the Medical Director of the Institute of Movement and the Musculoskeletal System (IML) www.iml.care at the South Hospitals in Marseille. He is the coordinator of the Regional Hospital Group for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology and an assessor at the Faculty of Regional Hospital Groups.

He holds a university doctorate in surgical sciences and has completed a research fellowship at the University of Oxford, UK. He is a full member of the National Academy of Surgery.

He was President and founding member of the European Knee Society (EKS), President of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA), and President of the International Society for Orthopaedic Surgery of the Mediterranean.

He has served as President of the 50-02 Orthopaedic Surgery Subcommittee of the National Council of Universities and President of the Conference of Presidents of Medical Sections of the National Council of Universities. He is a member of international university commissions: Balgrist University, Zurich; Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire Vaudois, Lausanne; Torino Universita, Turin; Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, USA; Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA; University of California, San Francisco, USA.

He has published more than 260 PubMed-indexed articles, particularly in the field of knee and hip arthroplasty.
